Software maintenance and development: your development department.
Software maintenance is the ongoing care an application needs after launch: monitoring, security updates, backups, bug fixes and smaller changes. Tsunami Digital, a software studio in Zagreb, maintains and keeps developing business applications, web shops and automations for companies without their own developers - monthly, with response times in the contract.
Overview
Software maintenance and development does not end at launch. Servers need updates, browsers and APIs change, security patches arrive every month, and the business keeps asking for new features. In a monthly partnership we take all of that on: we watch that the system runs, keep it updated, fix what breaks and, within an agreed scope, build what you need next. We work as your own development department - without you having to hire one.
We maintain software we built and software someone else built; in the second case we start with a review of the code and infrastructure. A monthly partnership is not worth it for a system that is rarely used and rarely changes - occasional hourly work is cheaper there, and we will tell you so.
When it fits
- Your business depends on an application or web shop, and nobody in the company knows what to do when it stops.
- A list of changes has been waiting for months because there is nobody to ask.
- Your previous developer or agency is gone, but the system still has to run.
- You pay several suppliers and nobody sees the whole picture.
- You want a steady partner who knows your system instead of explaining it again every time.
What monthly maintenance and development includes
06- 01
Monitoring and alerts
We watch availability, errors and performance, and hear about a problem before your customers do.
- 02
Security updates
Frameworks, libraries and servers updated on a schedule, so known vulnerabilities do not stay open.
- 03
Tested backups
Regular backups kept off the main server, with restores we actually test - a backup nobody restored is only a hope.
- 04
Bug fixes
Errors fixed by priority, with an agreed response time for anything that stops your work.
- 05
New features
Monthly hours for changes and new functionality, planned with you so the software keeps up with the business.
- 06
Roadmap and reviews
A regular review of what was done, what is next and which risks are building up - one place where the whole picture lives.
Three levels of partnership
03- 01
Maintenance
One system that has to run reliably.
- Monitoring, updates and backups
- Bug fixes
- Response within one working day
- 02
Care and development
Several systems and steady smaller changes.
- Everything in Maintenance
- Monthly hours for changes and new features
- Quarterly review and roadmap
- Faster response for urgent failures
- 03
Development team
Software that keeps growing.
- Everything in Care and development
- Reserved developer capacity every month
- Regular demos of progress
- Priority response
The monthly amount depends on the systems and the scope. We agree it in writing up front and it does not change without your consent. Work outside the package is billed hourly at €40-60 excl. VAT.

-
Free first call
You tell us what you run and what hurts; we tell you honestly whether a monthly partnership makes sense.
-
System review
A fixed-scope review of code, infrastructure, accounts and documentation, ending in a written list of risks and priorities.
-
Monthly agreement
Scope, response times and the monthly amount in writing. Accounts and access are moved into your name where they are not already.
-
Ongoing work
Maintenance and development every month, with a monthly report and regular reviews of the roadmap.
€40-60 per hour. No surprises on the invoice.
Hourly work and developers in your team are billed at €40-60 per hour (excluding VAT), depending on the kind of work and the experience it needs. Before we start, we agree the rate and an estimate of hours in writing, and every month you get a clear breakdown of what was done.
- 01Rate and estimated hours agreed in writing before work starts
- 02A monthly breakdown of every task and the hours it took
- 03Fixed-price projects and monthly packages are quoted separately

- 01 Software maintenance cost and support after launch Business software maintenance costs 15-25% of the build per year. What a monthly maintenance plan covers, typical response times and what is billed hourly.

Other ways to work together
- 01 Taking over and upgrading software We take over software someone else built: review, safe handover, stabilisation and further development.
- 02 Hire developers for your team One or more of our developers in your team, hourly (€40-60 excl. VAT) or for a full month.
Services we look after
- 01 Custom software development Web apps, mobile apps, internal tools and platforms built around your processes - including takeovers of existing code.
- 02 Web shop development Web shops and B2B ordering portals with Croatian payment gateways, fiscalization, and ERP, stock and shipping integrations.
- 03 Business process automation Orders, invoices, reports and approvals that move between your systems on their own, with people only where judgement is needed.
Questions
-
01 What is software maintenance?
Software maintenance is everything done to an application after launch to keep it running reliably. The ISO/IEC 14764 standard distinguishes four types: corrective (fixing bugs), adaptive (keeping up with new browsers, systems and regulations), perfective (improvements and new features) and preventive (updates and removing risks before they cause failures). A monthly partnership covers all four.
-
02 How is software maintenance different from IT support?
Software maintenance looks after applications, web shops and automations: the code, the servers they run on, updates and new features. Looking after computers, networks and Microsoft 365 is the job of IT support. We only do software, and we coordinate with your IT support where the two meet.
-
03 What exactly is included in software maintenance?
Monitoring, security updates, tested backups, bug fixes and an agreed number of hours for changes and new features, plus regular reviews of the roadmap. What each level includes is written in the agreement, so you always know what is covered and what is billed separately.
-
04 How quickly do you respond to a failure?
Response times (the SLA) are agreed in writing by urgency: a failure that stops your work gets the fastest response, while change requests are planned into the monthly hours. At the Maintenance level we respond within one working day at the latest, and higher levels respond faster.
-
05 Do you maintain software you did not build?
Yes. We start with a review of the code, infrastructure and access, fix what is urgent, document what is missing and then take over regular maintenance. If something is not worth maintaining, we say so and propose a plan.
-
06 How much does software maintenance cost?
Software maintenance has no single price: it depends on how many systems there are, how critical they are and how much development you want each month, so there is no price list for packages. The first call is free, the monthly amount is agreed in writing before we start, and anything outside the package is billed at €40-60 per hour excl. VAT.
-
07 Can we cancel the partnership?
Yes, with a notice period instead of a long lock-in. The code, data and accounts are yours, and on leaving we hand over everything with documentation.
Does your software need a steady team?
Tell us what you run. The first call is free, and the monthly amount is agreed in writing before we start.
Completely free. No commitments.
